Feeding Coco the crow

Now Coco already learnt how to fly and he (or she) lives out side our house.
He comes at least three times a day to eat: morning (7:00), 10am brunch, noon, afternoon, dinner, and sometime in between these for a small snack.
We must teach his how to get food by himself, but we love to spoil him so he keeps on coming.

Here is a short clip of preparing the food and calling him to come and eat.
He just hears our call and flies over, lands on our hands (or head) and crows until we start shoving food down his throat.

Gili with the crow

Gili really likes to play with the crow.
She is not afraid of it to the point I have to move her away when she tries to get her face too close to his beak.

She likes to feed him, pushing her fingers all the way into it's esophagus while he open is beak widely. Sometimes she likes the food we give him and she tries taking part of it for herself. Yesterday we fed him with fresh chicken breast and orange slices. What ever the crow left aside Gili wanted. I explain to her way she can't have it and had to give her a plate with oranges of her own.

Any way, see below more playing around with the crow and the cat together in our back yard.

Dalia fixing the crow's broken leg

Initial we wanted to bring the new crow to a wild life reserve where hopefully they would take care of him, but apparently in Israel crows are pests and don't get covered by the government's aid for wild animals.

So two days after we took the small crow in to our home Dalia took him to her clinic to fix his broken leg.
We also asked one of the nurses in the zoo for advice on taking care of crow, what to feed him (crow's are omnivores).

Trying to help a wounded crow

I noticed a wounded crow on the sidewalk during the day. It seems his parents are around and looking after him, but as night fell we understood no one is taking care of it, feeding it or getting it water to drink.
We took it in for the night and we'll try to bring him to a bird rescue tomorrow.

He does not fly yet and it seems one of his fingers is broken.
other than that he seems nice and even lets us feed him by hand.

I'll keep you posted

Some info about "Crow's as a pet" and another one in Hebrew.
